New Faces at KNSAC

Drew Rydell is a dedicated veterinarian who grew up on the East side of Kaua’i. After graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and practicing in Southern California for nearly 10 years, he is thrilled to bring his knowledge and experience home to Kaua’i to serve the community. Dr. Drew is known for his compassionate approach to animal care. Outside of the clinic he enjoys surfing, riding dirt bikes, and cruising with his ohana.

Julie Rydell is a compassionate veterinarian with 10 years of general practice experience. Dr. Julie embraces an integrative approach that includes acupuncture. As a graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Julie is committed to providing high quality care, and fostering strong relationships with both pets and their owners. Outside of the clinic Dr. Julie enjoys spending time in nature. She and Dr. Drew have two young sons and their pet family includes a dog, Roo, and two kitties.

Team Updates:

Cindy Moreaux continues in her role as Medical Director and is in the clinic seeing appointments about two weeks a month. Follow Dr. Cindy’s upcoming visits on our social pages or call for an appointment.

Casey Walczuk is headed out on maternity leave at the end of August. We offer a huge congratulations to her and her husband – what fantastic parents they will be! Dr. Casey is scheduled to resume seeing appointments in December 2024.

Wellness Plans:

In our continued pursuit to make exceptional veterinary care affordable, we offer both Wellness Plans and Dental Plans to make preventative care financially possible. Our Plans allow you to budget the cost of preventative care in scheduled payments over the course of the year, while also saving you up to hundreds of dollars.

Client Conduct:

A walk through our hallway will display the acts of kindness and love we receive from our wonderful clients – thank you cards line the cork board with fruit and treats filling the basket below. To those of you who take the time to share a kind word, send us a thank you letter, write a glowing review, or share treats with our team please know that each act of kindness leaves a big impact on our hearts and boosts morale in the hospital.

Despite the joy found in our hallway, the veterinary industry is suffering. There is an increasing and distressing mental health crisis, burnout, disproportionately high suicide rate, and shortage of new talent interested in joining our field. Our practice is not immune to this crisis and the blows we suffer are often done in silence.

In response to recent events that have occurred at KNSAC, we want to remind all of our clients that we have a Zero Tolerance Policy when it comes to the following:

  1. Verbal abuse, malicious or harmful statements, profanity or disrespect directed at any member of our staff.
  2. Any form of harassment including; cyberbullying, discriminatory comments and/or actions, intimidation tactics, and/or threats, etc.
  3. Public disclosure of another’s private information.
  4. Belligerence or erratic behavior due to the influence of alcohol or behavior-altering drugs.
  5. Any other objectionable behavior that disrupts our business and disturbs our veterinarians, technicians, support staff, clients, and/or patients.

This policy will be strictly enforced and non-compliance will result in corrective measures being taken. We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue services immediately in the event there is a behavior that falls in and around the above stated policy.

Please share with us your expectations, discuss any concerns regarding treatment options or finances, and commit to setting realistic expectations for the care available on a small island with limited resources. Your cooperation in fostering a mutually respectful relationship will benefit you, your pet, and our team.

Our employees are doing their very best to provide exceptional care to your pet and service to you. It is our goal to continue accepting new patients, accepting emergency appointments for new and established patients during regular business hours, and commit to being open on Sunday, to see patients regardless of where they take their pet for regular care.

“Not One More Vet” is providing pet parents with information on how to support the veterinary community during this time of rising prevalence of verbal, emotional and physical abuse from our clients on an everyday basis. If you would like to learn more about how to support your veterinary team please visit, Not One More Vet, for more information.

We are only human, and it takes very little time or effort to just be kind. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our expectations, please reach out to the hospital directly. Mahalo!
